Garden Lover’s Weekend At Tryon Palace!

Tulips Galore!
Friday, April 8 – Sunday, April 10

New Bern, NC - Garden Lover’s Weekend at Tryon Palace, amidst the splendor of thousands of tulips in bloom, celebrates the coming of spring the first weekend of April with music, a heritage plant sale and other fun activities for the whole family. Admission to the Palace Gardens is free from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, and 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10. Tours of the North Carolina History Center galleries and historic buildings require the purchase of a ticket.

Master gardeners will be on hand at the Heritage Plant Sale, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to answer your planting questions. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase unique, rare and historic plants and browse through a wonderful selection of perennials, herbs, annuals, trees and shrubs grown in the Tryon Palace greenhouse. Come early for the best selection! For Tryon Palace Council of Friends members, there will be a preview sale Thursday, April 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The Tryon Palace Fife & Drum Corps will take you back to spring in the colonies when they put on a demonstration in front of the Governor’s Palace on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with concerts at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Sunday concerts are at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, performances will be held in the North Carolina History Center’s Cullman Performance Hall.

In a nod to the young sprouts of spring, Saturday at 3:00 p.m. enjoy the music of budding virtuosos from the Mary McKeel Suzuki Violin Studio. The youngsters perform in the Latham Garden amidst tulips, Bath’s Pink Dianthus and Chinese Snowball Viburnum. In the event of inclement weather, this performance will be moved to the Tryon Palace Way Station at the corner of George and Pollock Streets.

Garden Lover’s Weekend at the Palace is held in conjunction with the Spring Historic Homes & Gardens Tour, which is sponsored by the New Bern Historical Society and the New Bern Preservation Foundation.
