Bobbi Waters in Concert at Port City Java!

Bobbi Waters put on quite the show at Port City Java during New Bern’s Artwalk today!

Knowing Bobbi as the "Educator for the Environment" and as a fun loving friend, I was pleasantly surprised to hear her perform tonight. I had no idea she had such a beautiful voice to go with her terrific personality! A lot of people can sing, but can they truly entertain while performing in front of a live audience? Bobbi can! She dazzled her audience.

Her Mother, "Mom" Waters, her Uncle Marvin Waters, and family watched the large audience of friends and visitors tap their feet, clap, and sway to the music. We sang along to songs like "Home Grown Tomatoes", "Me and Bobby McGee", "Under the Boardwalk"", and "Put another Log on the Fire", to name a few. Bobbi dedicated "Wind Beneath My Wings" to her "Uncle Marv", who's celebrating his 80th birthday tomorrow!

As Suzannah Cockerille-Talton introduced Bobbi, we learned that Bobbi started playing the guitar when she was 6. She was born to be a star! Suzannah disclosed that when Bobbi was young, she would sleep with the guitar at night. Was it because she was protecting it? Maybe she was thinking if she slept with it, it would be similar to osmosis, like some of us who slept with a math book under our pillow and prayed that the information would transfer to our heads for that tough exam!

When Bobbi was old enough, she left New Bern to "Hit it Big" in Nashville, TN, for six years. In between songs, she told us some really funny stories of living in Nashville, which made everyone laugh!

Bobbi did make us ponder our existence. As she introduced a Garth Brooke’s Song, she gave us a good life lesson related to "Pushing up Daisies". She reminded us how precious life was. Our tombstones will be marked with the day our life begins, a dash, and the day we die. Then she asked "What are you going to do with the dash"? She wants people to know the dash will reflect that she had fun.

To me, Bobbi's dash will be more than fun. The dash will represent a good hearted person who would do anything for a friend or someone in need, has performed countless hours of community service, teaches children and people on a daily basis about our environment and how they can make a difference, is a very smart and kind woman, and has enjoyed a lot of FUN in life! What is your dash going to represent?

Thank you, Bobbi, for your super performance! I can’t believe you didn’t make "IT Big" in Nashville, but I’m happy that you’ve made "IT BIG" in New Bern! Great show tonight!

I’d also like to thank Teresa and Jerry for providing a friendly atmosphere and venue for Bobbi to perform! Port City Java is located at 323 Middle Street, 252-633-7900.

  1. Bobbi did an awesome job. I didn't know she could sing and play the guitar either. Can she dance too? New Bern was rocking and made me happy to know that I live in a great town.
