Highlights of the trip included seeing my folks, two sisters and brother-in-law in Western NY. Especially being there for my folks to place a veteran’s flag at my brother’s grave.
The trip also included a five day hiatus camping and turkey hunting adventure in NY’s mountains. Did I say turkey hunting? They were probably people watching my sister and me as we hiked miles in search of this elusive bird. Obviously, they are still smarter than us after 8 years!
I have come to terms that I’m not in it for the hunting, just pitching a tent in the backwoods and exploring the beautiful forests of Western NY and the Croatan National Forest in New Bern’s backyard.
Below are a photo of a hen (can’t hunt female turkey during the spring hunting season) and a Bald Eagle from the trip.

On another note, the 1st New Bern Now Newsletter was a success, so we’re currently seeking upcoming events, community news, etc. for the 2nd Quarterly Newsletter to be published for July – September. Please send the information now to make sure it’s included. FYI, 2,200 hardcopies of the newsletter was distributed to the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport and at least 50 businesses and non-profits throughout the Greater New Bern Area.
