Jim White has been working on a book about Portsmouth Island. It will be a historical guidebook titled, Portsmouth Island: A Walk Into The Past. The Island has a rich and interesting history that is kept alive by the Friends of Portsmouth Island group. After the Civil War, some of the families moved to the mainland including New Bern, Oriental, Atlantic, Morehead City, Beaufort, Little Washington, Wilmington and other locales.
