Spotlight on Boston at the Bend – River Bend That Is!

UPDATE: Boston at the Bend Closed in June, 2011
George and Ann Travis, owners of Boston at the Bend and Boston Deli, shed a new light on New Bern area restaurants!

I met friends for lunch at Boston at the Bend today and was very impressed with a fun and tasty experience, especially since I’ve never been there before.

Walking in, I was greeted by the friendly, speedy, and attentive staff. George Travis was on scene chatting with customers and delivering food during their busy lunch time.

The restaurant is strategically located on the river with a large dining patio and outdoor stage. Inside you can relax in a nautically decorated dining area with a welcoming and calming atmosphere. Rent one of their two catering rooms or reserve the deck on a limited basis.

Boston at the Bend caters to all! They provide delicious food and drinks at affordable prices. Their team offers food and drink specials.

If you just want to relax and take a break to talk to friends, stop in for a drink at their bar.

Tom and Delilah provide live music and Karaoke on the Deck on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 6pm.

George believes in the “Everybody is somebody customer service approach.” George jokes with patrons. He tells first time visitors they are customers and if they come back again, they are part of the family. He is proud to have customers who support their efforts. He strives to provide quick service, great food, and a fun and friendly atmosphere. Talking with George motivated me to write this blog. He is a man who just wants to help his community and have some fun. To me, that’s what life is all about.

Did I mention that they provide outside catering services?

For a unique and enjoyable dining experience, please visit Boston at the Bend located at 1 Marina Road in River Bend. Please call them for more information at 252-636-1658. George and Ann also own Boston Deli located at 309 Middle Street, 252-633-4899.

Thanks for the tour, George!

  1. Hi Wendy, so glad you posted about this restaurant as I was wanting to go there, but heard less than stellar reports about it. Maybe we'll give it a try.

  2. Judy, thanks for you comment. I try to provide an unbias view of all businesses that I write about. The customers seemed to be enjoying luhcn...there were quite a few people. Have a great weekend.

  3. Judy's review of this restaurant was unsettling and very rude. Not objective at all, as she states that most of New Bern's restaurants are sub-par. It is nice when someone can have something more positive and MORE ACCURATE to say!

This is the comment left for her blog, after her review. Let's see if it gets posted:

"Clearly, you were not so disappointed with the food that you have a "to go" box on the table in front of you in the picture.

For those who clip coupons for 50% off a meal, and then complain that the outside/inside of the facility has "no frills," you should be checking your motives to write such a post.

If you consider most of the eating places in New Bern to be sub-par, then perhaps you are the type of individual who can never be happy or satisfied.

A good reviewer also does not judge a restaurant solely upon one single visit. Even true food reviewers do not find most restaurants to be an overall disappointment. This appears to be a personal issue as opposed to a true, objective review of a restaurant.

If you are so highly disappointed with New Bern...one might just question, why then do you choose to be here?

We have been to Boston at the Bend and find it to be EXACTLY like things were back home:
    FRIENDLY
    RELAXING
    UNPRETENTIOUS
    FAMILY-ORIENTED
    AND GOOD.

But then again, we didn't visit and just spend time in Boston and the New England area...we were actually born and raised there."

  4. Thank you, Anonymous, for sharing your experience at Boston at the Bend and commenting. If other readers don't follow, it's because they don't know about the "review" on Judy's blog: "The Bear Cupboard": http://bearcupboard.blogspot.com/search/label/Boston%20at%20the%20Bend. If we were in NY City, LA, Washington DC or even Boston, I could see where "food critics" thrive, but in our small city, each restaurant has it's own ups and downs and unique flavors. I believe in promote, not demote, especially in this current economic situation. Thank you for sharing your opinion about Boston at the Bend. I know I enjoyed my lunch and the service!
