The Neuse RIVERKEEPER® Foundation invites the community to come out for a day of environmental stewardship, community enrichment and fun. This is a chance for people to roll up their sleeves, get muddy for a cause, and have a positive impact on the beauty of their community.
Please join us--along with the more than 300 people already registered--as we celebrate a decade of work to uncover and unburden our beautiful waterways!
This landmark year will see:
- Cleanup sites throughout the basin, from Raleigh to New Bern, covering over 200 miles of river
- Special volunteer “guest stars” including Raleigh City Council members, Tom Earnhardt of UNC-TV’s Exploring North Carolina, Riverkeepers from other basins, and maybe even the Easter bunny!
When: Saturday April 7th 2012, 8:00am to 2:00pm
Paddlers should arrive around 8:00am to get an early start on the river
Volunteers on foot, cleaning the shoreline should arrive between 9:00 and 10:00 am
Who: The Neuse RIVERKEEPER® Foundation, Upper and Lower Neuse RIVERKEEPER®, and hundreds of community volunteers from all walks of life, ages 5 to 105!
Where: Various sites along the Neuse River from Falls Dam in North Raleigh, through Johnston County (Clayton & Smithfield), and into the Lower Neuse in Kinston, Seven Springs, and New Bern. Neuse River tributaries, including Crabtree Creek, will be addressed as well.
Why: The Neuse River collects a lot of trash and other debris throughout the year. This event helps to clean and protect the places we visit and play all summer and reminds us all of the valuable resources we have in our backyard.
